As twilight falls, the magic begins…..

Magical evenings have arrived in Surrey as Kew Gardens opens in doors for seasonal light show filled with festive warmth.

Now entering in its fourth year, the winter trail at Kew is a mile-long glittering, sparkling pathway that winds its way through the Gardens. In previous years the after dark experience has wowed kids and adults alike as the trees, temples and glasshouses of Kew are set aglow with a mix of traditional and modern decorative features.

Guests enter the Gardens between two gigantic Christmas trees before journeying along the path, with time to pause and take in the many stunning scenes along the way.

Some of the highlights include the Tunnel of Lights, animated by over 60,000 lights making patterns and pictures, the woodland walk with its larger-than-life candles, and the Palm House Pond lit up with laser beams, fans of light and flickering orbs that move to the rhythm of popular Christmas classics.

Highlights for children

While visitors of all ages will enjoy the lights and colours of Kew Gardens at night, children are also being treated to a number of attraction laid on especially for them.

At the White Peaks section, there is a Victorian carousel, helter skelter, and other family-friendly rides. The will be operating from 5pm to 9.30pm and cost £2.50 per ride.

Children should also be on the lookout for a very special guest at the North Pole village! Santa and his elves won’t be able to meet children individually this year, but they will be performing as part of the winter trail experience.

Winter warming treats

A range of tasty refreshment will be on sale throughout the evening, including Christmas treat such as spiced cider, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and roast chestnuts. You can even toast your own marshmellows!
