Yes today we live in a busy world where the clock ticks far too quickly and the ‘to do’ list of chores is relentless. What with school runs, nursery groups, shopping, cleaning, cooking going to work and bed time routines before you know, there is no time to exercise!
Your 15 minute workout
Every mum I know would be happy to lose a few pounds and find it difficult to commit time to themselves to do this and worry that they need extra hours each week but I have great news you don’t need to spend all day exercising, you can achieve great results quickly by exercising in short, hard sessions. This means doing strenuous activity where you get breathless, hot and sweaty literally for a few minutes at a time.
The real benefit of a 15 minute intense cardio session such as sprinting, hill runs or plyometric training comes after the workout has finished. Your body will burn a lot of energy as you are recovering from the session. Depending on how hard you train, it could take several hours for your body to return to a resting level.
Short and sweet
Short hard workouts improve your fitness level so you will be able to progressively exercise for longer periods of time and at a higher intensity in future workouts. The longer and harder you can train, the more energy you burn. And coincidentally, the fitter you are, the more calories you will naturally burn during exercise. Now there’s an incentive!
It is a lot easier to fit blocks of 15 minutes into the day rather than committing to an hour of exercise at one go so for those with busy lifestyles, a short intense workout is ideal for them.
You don’t have to spend another hour in the gym
You could try sprints in the park pushing the buggy, running up and down the stairs in your house, practicing burpees, push ups and squat jumps in your lounge. Anything is better than sitting down watching TV and you can do these in short bursts, it doesn’t have to be all at once.
Don’t forget that the more you can move on a daily basis the more calories you burn and every little helps!
